Premise

You are breaking ground on a new frontier as the planet dies around you! The railroad and the Station is essential to leaving it behind. You'll have to dig deep to excavate long-lost spacefaring technology, while ensuring everyone has the vital water, fuel and comforts they need in your ever growing town in the mean time.

Nerdy Take

I believe SteamWorld Build is a great introduction for those new to city builders. It is very easy to learn. I think its perfect for kids and adults especially families who like video gaming. And if you are a Steam Achievement junkie than you'll have a fun and easy time completing them for this game.

The art style is really charming. Each Destination you can use varies in looks and offers a unique reward to help you in other game plays. This encouraged me to keep playing to see them all and collect the rewards from each. There are themes you can use on the Destinations to change up their appearance too like Steam Fright that makes your towns spookier. I have a lot of fun decorating my towns and watching all the little steambots going about their business. And the soundtrack and sounds are enchanting. I usually turn off music and sounds down in games but not this one. Thank you Ola Bäckström.

There is combat in the lower level mines that can get a little tedious but once I learned how to fortify for the attacks it became more enjoyable. The fact you can post your guards and weapons near the attack locations makes the fights more automated. Set it and forget it.

My biggest gripe, I finished the main game to quickly. Under 140 hrs in and I even finished all the steam achievements too. There hasn't been any news of content being planned for the future either. And I haven't had the desire to play the Mechanized DLC.
